A Maldivian who fled from the Maldives is denied to have two Maldivian Passports at a time

DP Correspondent, Male' 14/03/2005-MDP’s media Dhivehi Observer and Minivan News have confirmed that a Maldivian called Mohamed Nasheed, commonly known as Anni, fled the Maldives in late 2003. After fleeing from the Maldives Anni dwelled in the UK, and set up an organization by which he believes the current dictatorship will be overthrown, and by virtue of this, his organization will become the ruling party by making him the President of the Maldives.

According to Anni and his organization’s internet news bullets, he had been planning to return to the Maldives early this month, but now it confirms the contrary that Anni had delayed his arrival to the Maldives until his Maldivian passport-which he had on his free will handed over to the UK government, to seek refuge in the UK-is retrieved from the UK authorities.

However, Anni reports to his very own media that his arrival to the Maldives had been delayed due to the reason that President Gayoom has refused to issue another passport for him. The question here is that why should he be given another passport and how can he request for a second passport when he already has one?

It is surprising to have heard of a man, ‘a politician’ who made a complete fool out of himself by such a futile claim. There is no government on earth that provides two passports of the same nationality to any one person at a time unless for diplomatic purposes. Anni thinks that by announcing that he is the Chairperson of an organization which he established for the very purpose of gaining the title Chairperson, he must be given two passports or may be more whenever he wants. This is a bootless claim which he made to deceive and gull our people, thinking that he could make a hero out of himself by this jest.

According to the concerning law, it is forbidden to issue a second passport to anyone unless the passport is proven lost or expired. Therefore, this man’s case is crystal clear and we do know that he was denied to have a second passport only because he possesses a valid passport, and not because the government of Maldives is scared of his arrival or because President Gayoom wants to flee from the country before he arrives.

Yet, DP’s aim is not to say that Anni requested for a second passport because he plans to sell the first one to a terrorist group!
