Don't let our children go off with your so-called democracy!

Seeing the condition of our nation under President Gayoom’s government today, and throughout the past few decades, it is more vital than ever to focus on the future. To build a better future, we can not leave behind the essence of our existence from the 'past' with a forwards gaze. A misguided community cannot be directed to the righteous path without an honest consideration to the 'past' and the 'present' in which they lived, and live in today.

It is believed that the Maldives is a Muslim nation where Islam and its fundamental principles are exercised. Historically, since the people of the Maldives embraced Islam, they deemed necessary to uphold Islamic values in every single aspect of their life. But, our life and the belief in our hearts had in time turned to live a life of its very own. Divined law was neglected bit by bit. Social behavior has lost its moral boundaries. Crimes increased day by day. Corruption and discrimination has no limits, and ultimately the country itself turned into an unsafe place for many to live and enjoy their social and legal rights.

Whilst the country is in the said condition, it is taking a very unique direction towards reform and further democracy. There are diverse ideologies of reform and democracy among our people. And the current regime itself has a reform proposal of its very own. However, bringing about constructive changes and forming the people’s institution is what our nation needs now.

Deplorably, the government and many people have blanked out the importance of guiding and leading our young generations to the right path. Consequently, an average of our youth is lost in the black shadows of evil deeds. Maldives jails are filled with many younkers who were helpless and drove their lives alone, until they were ended up in a horrible cell. After serving the sentence or being pardoned by the President, none of these victims were ever taken care of, or not even given proper counseling during their prison term. As a result, they continue the criminal track, and make the society a dangerous place to everyone else again and again. And finally, they end up in the same old cell where they live with nothing, but all forms of torments.

I believe it is vital to take this issue into consideration rather than staking the future of our nation with an unforgivable disaster. For everyone could understand, if this issue be properly addressed, it will stabilize social order, and reduce every day crimes in our small society and safeguard our children’s future; the future of our nation.

I would finally, call on the government of Maldives and all who take place in rebuilding the ruined socio-political environment in the Maldives, to pay more attention on saving the younger generations from being misguided in the flaming political arena. And namely, we advise the so-called MDP and its mouthpiece Dhivehi Observer to maintain all disciplinary boundaries in their unpleasant approaches to deal with the country's affairs.

A watchful eye can immediately see the true nature of everything that exists in the ongoing political reaction. See and observe to grant your check for the future of our nation, not for the self-centered objectives. It’s time for your check! Only your!
