Shameless
Hypocrisy amongst politicians
22/11/2005 |adduonline
The most despicable feature of the current political dramas of
this country is the fact that these local dramas are viewed in
complete isolation to the global political scenario. However,
the two camps are bold enough to link certain aspect of the
'war on terror' to the local political scenarios occasionally.
Though the styles of linking differ with respect to each
party, both groups are extremely cautious not to expose the
far reaching consequences of intellectual 'war on terror' and
its strong linkage to reform process in Maldives. Here is a
brief summary of how the two camps use the global political
scenario to build their cases.
The government camp
The 'pro' government camp links the reform process to global
political scenario to garner support or deflect criticism
depending on the circumstances. If some Western diplomat
showers praises on the reform process, the government camp is
quick to announce its conformance to international standards,
laws and conventions. However if the government receives
criticism from the West, then websites affiliated to the pro
camp are full of horror stories how the Kuffar
(disbelievers) want to destroy Islam, build churches, ram
western culture down our throats...etc
The 'anti' camp
This camp is slightly complicated. This camp has the audacity
to compare and contrast certain aspects of the 'war on terror'
with the political issues in Maldives and actually praise the
occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. For instance, Mr.Ibrahim
Ismail (Ibra) one of core-leaders of this camp, complained how
the government was stalling the constitutional reform process
whilst the same process has been completed in Iraq and
Afghanistan in less than a year. Here, the important question
is, on what basis are they contrasting Iraq and Maldives.
Perhaps, the hidden message is that Iraq is a Muslim land, so
is Maldives. Therefore, the reform process in Maldives is just
a part of what's taking place is Iraq and Afghanistan. It
should be noted that prior to the framing of the constitutions
of Iraq and Afghanistan, these two countries were flattened to
the ground and the staged elections took place under
occupation. And recently the Kuffar (disbelievers)
have admitted that they used chemical weapons in Iraq which
killed more 100,000 people. But the members of the 'anti' camp
are not ready to go into a comprehensive discussion on the
global political situation lest they reveal their true status
of being tools for the West.
This camp also contrasts the achievements of ideological
nations and the state of affairs in Maldives. In one of the
party meetings, one of its speaker said if UK can provide
healthcare to every Britain, Maldives should be able to
provide the same service for every Maldivian. Again, we are
hard pressed to understand the basis on which they compare
Britain and Maldives. Britain has other noble achievements
which the speaker declined to mention such as the rising cases
of rape, pedophilia, murder, gay marriage...etc. No wonder
short memory and hypocrisy are two fundamental traits of every
Machiavellian politician and their followers. Such politicians
fit the description from the saying of Muhammad (saw),
''Deceiving years will come where the people would believe the
liar and not believe the trustworthy, and the traitor would be
trusted and the honest would be distrusted. In those years,
the Ruwaybidah will speak.'' He was asked, ''And what is
Ruwaybidah?'' He (saw) replied, ''The shallow man who speaks
about the public affairs.''?
conclusion
In the light of what has transpired in Iraq and Afghanistan,
how can a person be allowed to praise the killing and maiming
of Muslims ? Praising the constitutional reform of Iraq and
Afghanistan is actually recognizing the legitimacy of the
occupation. And the people who attend these party meetings
clap their hands as if they do not have an ounce of dignity.
Prophet (saw) : The Muslim's blood is worth more than kaabah
He (saw) said : The one who gets up in the morning and his
interests is other than the ummah, he is not amongst us.
Ends.
